Red Rockalypse 5

Last week I was in St. George, Utah for Red Rockalypse 5, an annual istockphoto event held every year in southern Utah.  I love southern Utah.  It is one of my favorite parts of the country because it is so picturesque, colorful, and quiet.  But this was my first time attending one of the RR events.  We shot in a few locations and had access to quite a few models.  I was mostly there to see friends and meet up with new ones from all around the world, but happy with the photos that I captured.  We had a great time even if it was in the 90s and very dry everyday.  My little body isn’t acclimated to the desert climate anymore!

In addition to the locations that we visited during the event, I also visited Zion National Park for the third time.  I hadn’t been there in about 9 years and it has changed a bit.  Public access by car is limited within the park now and there’s a tunnel and a shuttle to take you to various locations.  I don’t remember these things being there in the past, but maybe my memory is failing me!

I also visited the ghost town of Grafton, Utah that was first settled in 1859 and is now preserved through a heritage partnership.  Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were filmed on location in 1969.

Here are some of my images from the istock event, Zion, and Grafton.

Parallel Perspectives

iStockphoto has just released a book called Parallel Perspectives.  The book is 120 pages and filled with amazing images that are just a taste of the creativity behind iStock’s 65,000+ artists.  No, there aren’t that many artists featured in the book. :P

This book stands out from many other coffee table books because 100% of the proceeds from the book sales go to charity: water, a non-profit that brings clean and safe drinking water to developing nations.

You can preview the first 15 pages of the book and order it on blurb’s website here.

milestone

I’ve been a contributing photographer on istockphoto for a little over 6 years (and an istockphoto image inspector for 4 of those years as well).

My istockphoto portfolio currently contains 4,279 photos that can be purchased as royalty-free stock photography.

Today I hit a milestone: 75,000 photos sold on istockphoto!

My 75,000th image sold was this image of school desk chairs that was taken at the Chessielypse event in Maryland in fall 2006.

Free Image of the Week

freeimage.jpgI went to Maryland for the weekend and just returned tonight. I’ll write more details about the trip in another post. My stomach has been a wreck since yesterday afternoon. I don’t know if it was food poisoning, something that just didn’t settle with my stomach, or something else. All I know is that my stomach has been fluctuating between ok and horrible. But that’s not the reason of this post.

One of my photos is free image of the week on the front page of istockphoto. So if you have an account on istock, get on over there and download it while it’s hot…and did I mention that it’s free? And if you don’t already have an account on istock, send me an email and I can hook you up with a referral and some free credits to use as well! Enjoy!

istockphoto at Web2.0 in Berlin

istockphotoistockphoto was recently present at the Web2.0 conference in Berlin. This is a video interview with two istock representatives who were at the event and it really hits home for me because it is exactly the way I feel about every angle of istockphoto and its community. Istock and its community are solely responsible for helping me to advance to the level of photography that I have in such a short period of time. I’ve also made friends all over the world that I never would have met otherwise. Thanks Garth and Thomas for talking about istockphoto.
