bridge to nowhere
I made a quick jolt to go birding with a friend at the bridge to nowhere in Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey while everyone else was watching the Super Bowl. We spotted these species and more:
- short-eared owl (Asio flammeus)
- rough-legged hawk (Buteo lagopus)
- tri-colored heron (Egretta tricolor)
- great blue heron (Ardea herodias)
- little blue heron (Egretta caerulea) - juvenile
- downy woodpecker (Picoides pubescens)
- kingfisher- male and female
- red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)
And it wouldn’t be Jersey if there weren’t ticks. Yes, you read that right: TICKS. In February. In the winter. Between the two of us and the dog, we found over a dozen on us. ick! I’m still itchy just thinking about it.
The area is called bridge to nowhere because…guess what!? There’s a bridge to nowhere. Who would have thought!?
